[name/nicknames] Narcissa Cassiopeia Black. Cis, Cissa, Cissy. [birthday] 26 December 1955 [bloodline] Purest of the Pure. Narcissa was raised to look down her nose at anything less pure than she. And there are few, if any, families left that are as pure as the Blacks, so Narcissa has spent nearly all her life looking down at people. She watched her parents and her sister Bellatrix throw their status and their blood-purity around her whole life. It wasn't long until Narcissa realized that she really was better than everyone. Her hatred of muggles and mudbloods just came naturally after that. As well as her hatred of blood traitors and anyone who doesn't seem to share her class or ideas. [allegiance] Death Eaters, because her bloodline is the [occupation] Socialite. purest and her husband & son are DEs. [build/height/weight] 173 cm (5'6) and 59 kg (130lbs) [hair/eyes] [identifying marks] [style] [appearance] As light as her eldest sister is dark, Narcissa is considered the great beauty of the Black sisters. Appearance has always been important to her. She spends a painful amount of hours primping and preening. Not that Narcissa particularly needs to spend so much time working on her appearance, she just enjoys it. She has a natural beauty and a lovely glow, but without all the time she puts into her appearance, she would just be lovely. Narcissa is always determined to be the most beautiful woman in the room. And if she's not, she throws a fit and finds a way to make sure that she is. Usually that requires some sort of accidental "spill" or a diversion or one of them being suddenly called away.
[quirks] [hobbies] [pet peeves] [first impression] [likes/dislikes] [personality] Haughty. Snooty. Uppity. Conceited. All very good words to describe Narcissa. She knows her place and knows that it's above every other person she comes across. She has no problem sneering at or looking down her nose at someone of lesser status and/or blood. If they consider her a snob, it's no skin off her back. Their opinions don't matter. At all. Narcissa is perfectly content focusing the direction of her reputation toward those who are more nearly worthy of her attentions. Those numbers are dwindling, of course, as they grow older. But Narcissa is learning to adjust to the ebb and flow of the pureblood circles. Not everyone who is pureblood will remain in high society, and on the other hand not everyone who enters high society will be pureblood. It's all about choosing your allies wisely. And Narcissa knows just how to do that. Keep your allies close and your enemies closer. Narcissa doesn't really have any "friends" exactly, merely acquaintances and peons. She prefers that no one, save her mother, see her emotions. And as such, she refuses to have friends of any kind. Though that doesn't stop her from pretending to be friendly.
On the inside, Narcissa is just as self-involved as she is on the outside. The only difference is that she really does have fears. She hides them well, but they are there. The most obvious, of course, is failure. Is disappointing her family. She fears ruining the Black reputation. She also fears disappointing her future husband. She has been raised, bred, and groomed to understand married life as her goal. She is supposed to be the perfect trophy piece and provide him with an heir as well as hold up their social status. She's afraid to fail at the one thing that her whole life has been focused on. A deeper fear, however, one she hasn't even told her mother, has to do with the Dark Lord. She has no questions that his quest is the right one. What Narcissa is afraid of is that his war is going to take her family from her. She's most afraid for Bellatrix, who is reckless and doesn't think before jumping into things. She loves her sister. And she is getting increasingly worried about her future husband. He is more calculated and self-preserving than Bella, but Narcissa is worried that Lucius might be caught in something he can't talk his way out of.

[history] Narcissa was the last to be born of the great Black sisters. The phrase last but certainly not least applies rather nicely here. Narcissa was the baby of the Black girls and the last her family planned to give birth to. They had hoped for a boy, of course, but when little blonde haired, blue eyed Narcissa entered the world, she won the love and admiration of everyone around her immediately. She was a lovely baby, all pink cheeked and giggly. And it seemed that from the get-go she knew exactly what family she was a part of. She had no issues screaming her little head off until she got what she wanted. Of course it usually didn't take screaming her head off. Narcissa was as spoiled and pampered as her older sisters, perhaps more-so since her sisters were around to dote on her as well. They were just children, but that didn't mean they didn't jump when Narcissa wanted something. Older siblings, no matter what age, seem to adore their baby siblings. If Narcissa wanted a toy, or a bottle, or even something she wasn't supposed to have, all she had to do was reach her chubby little fingers out and one of her sisters would bring it to her.
Of course the chubby little fingers didn't last very long. By the time Narcissa was two she had thinned out and lost her baby fat. Her eyes were a bright sparkling blue. And she looked like purity itself with her pure blonde hair, especially when standing next to her sisters. Of course the Black sisters were naturally as different as day and night. Bella was the frightening one. Andromeda was the smart one. And Narcissa knew at an early age that she was the beautiful one. It wasn't very long before the entire focus of her life revolved around her looks. And soon after that, her social reputation became an important focus of her life. She worried over her appearance, her dresses, her hair, even make-up, from the time she was six onward. It was then that she started throwing parties. The first few were tea parties, but they were nearly as proper as any true social dinner party. She worshiped her mother and Druella taught her daughter everything she needed to know about becoming a young socialite. Druella was more than pleased to have a daughter to hang onto her every word and become a proper pureblood lady of society.
Without a second thought, or ever having questioned it, Narcissa took her seat at the Slytherin table after her sorting. And that's when the true social dance began. She quickly waded her way through those who were important enough for her attention and those who were not. She very soon had admirers far older than she was, as well as "friends" (who could more appropriately be called social climbing lackies) as well. She never needed to worry about her studies, there was always someone to do her homework for her. In fact, there were very few things that Narcissa did have to worry about. Everything down to opening doors was taken care of for her. And that included who she was going to marry.
By third year, Narcissa's holiday social had become something of a regular occurrence. Only the best of the best were invited. There were a few people who weren't purebloods, but only if their parents had a proper place in all the right social circles. Or if Narcissa thought she could use them as a stepping stone to get somewhere. It was at one of her parties, near about her fourth year, that Narcissa first laid eyes on Lucius Malfoy. Something about a man who acted as vain as she did rubbed her the wrong way. No bloke was as pretty as she was. And she was determined to prove that. However, the only way she could prove that was to put their appearance, and their egos, in constant competition with one another. She had no idea how to do this without making it obvious, so it was a problem she took to her mother. Druella, however, got the wrong idea.
Months later, Narcissa was betrothed to the only man who rivaled her in appearance and ego. She loathed him for the first year or so of their engagement. But the truth is, she's finding him more and more endearing. She doesn't love him, of course, but Druella assures her daughter that love would come. Narcissa is a bit nervous, considering Andromeda had love and then marriage, but she trusts her mother. In fact, Druella is the only one who has been getting her through this betrothal thing. It's a lot harder than Narcissa would have imagined. Becoming the woman of a house-hold, being required to take care of every little thing, as well as having to keep up her social status and her husband's, not to mention getting prepared to become a mother is starting to wear on Narcissa. As for an occupation? Like work? Ha! Narcissa hasn't worked a day in her life. And doesn't plan to either. She came from money and good society and is marrying into money and good society. There is not a single reason she should ever have to lift a finger.
